A Liar's Recollection"Now that you've had the fun of a rehearsal, why don't you try the real deal on for size? The thrill of a gamble! Never knowing if you'll win or lose from it until it's all over! Aha! Who will be first to lose? Who will be last? The votes, the numbers, the orders, the... the... the st-... the st-... st- st- strrrrr-" Alydar kicks the tape recorder from under the table. It audibly whirrs to a stop. Then explodes. "Well, I suppose you all remember this game, right? Ahahaha, except for those of you new to this establishment. I'm sure you've had tales upon tales upon tales heaped upon you... But the past doesn't matter! Trust your memory little, and see what you can recollect... money-wise, that is. You've each got 5 points to reclaim! Get to it!" Alydar pulls out a remote, and a video screen descends from the ceiling, scattering dust in its wake. Alydar coughs as the screen fades in and out of clarity before finally settling on a scoreboard (see below). Sadly, the portion that should have shown a representation of the board is irreparably pixellated... but Alydar has a physical representation! The gold-plated cards come out, and Alydar arranges them in order; each player's name appears on six of the 36 arranged cards. Then come the silver-plated ballot cards, complete with check boxes on the back! Each player gets a set, and a ballot box is presented. "Ahaha, it would appear we're all ready to go! You've each been told where two of your cards are; the rest must be discerned... Remember, 1 is low, 36 is high, and everything else is in-between! It's a mystery, a memory, a recollection... Who will prevail? Who will fail? Ahaha, to be continued!" Alydar sits back in his chair while the players consider whose name to check. And which numbers to choose... You have each been PMed with the placements of two of your own cards. The other cards remain a mystery. The layout of the cards are as follows: [Moritaka]
| [Kestrel]
| [10k]
| [Iain7]

(This board will be updated throughout the game, so check it regularly.) As this the first round, you will have 48 hours to place your decisions. Remember, you must provide both a vote for a flipper (someone to flip cards this turn; it cannot be yourself) and two numbers representing the cards you would like to flip in the event that you win the flipper position. If you neglect to send in either of these pieces of information, you will be ineligible to win the flipper position... As far as matching goes, a correct match leaves that pair face-up on the board for the remainder of the game and earns the flipper 1 point. If that match would eliminate a player (it's that player's final two cards), the flipper gains an extra 3 points, for a total of 4. If the two cards do not match, they'll remain face-up until the next round concludes, at which point they'll be flipped back over. Again, you have 48 hours. Votes and numbers must be in to Alydar by 9:58 pm GMT on Wednesday, February 13th, 2013. Since I have a class at that time, I may be late in updating. However, the deadline will still stand, so take care to get your decisions in on time. Players:Kestrel - 2 turns, 1 point 10k - 7 turns, 7 points Iain7 - 4 turns, 9 points Cyrus - 7 turns, 9 points Moritaka - 3 turns, 0 points Freih - 4 turns, 10 points (This thread is locked and will only contain pertinent game information. Please talk about anything game-related by PM, confessionals, or in the original Memory thread.)

You all have a little less than 21 hours to make your decisions. Make sure you get them in. Realistically, my post won't be out until approximately this time tomorrow, but I'd still like you all to hold to the deadline. Use your 48 hours well, as this is one of the only two rounds that you'll have that long to consider. Starting Round 3, we move to 24 hour rounds...

You all have less than 12 hours left. If I don't have your decisions yet, I suggest you send them in.

Voting Phase 1
A buzzer sounds from above, and Alydar promptly takes the ballot box into a back room to record the results. He comes out, reminiscence in his eyes. "Ahaha! Well, this was an interesting turnout! Deja vu, deja vu... Is Moritaka the new ShadowFire? First to win, third to go? Is Cyrus the new Kokuryu? An early vote toward him giving the ability to last 'til the end? Is Kestrel the new Darconis? Not voting, inactivity giving her the first elimination, or maybe letting her cards last later? Are 10k and Iain7 to show the same performance? Suicide and Victory? Does that leave Freih as NastyMan? Giving a good performance but weeded out near the end? How similar will this game go? Where will it diverge? Ahahahaha! Here we have all votes but one for Moritaka, his vote for Cyrus, and the abstainee as Kestrel. Ahaha, let's see how this all goes! Moritaka, your cards?" Moritaka walks up and whispers them to Alydar. "Alright! Cards 8 and 31, were they?" They're flipped, and, sadly, they do not match... "Oh, are we diverging already? Well, without a match first round, we'll see how this goes! To the next round! Enjoy!" Behind his mask, Alydar is obviously grinning...
Votes Moritaka: 4 votes Cyrus: 1 vote
Kestrel: 0 votes 10k: 0 votes Iain7: 0 votes Freih: 0 votes *Kestrel did not send in a vote.*
Moritaka wins the vote and decides to flip over cards 8 and 31. They do not match, so Moritaka wins no points. The two cards have been flipped over in the first post and will be flipped back over at the conclusion of the next voting phase.
You have 48 hours to make a decision on who should be the next flipper. Remember to include which two cards you would like to flip over in the event that you win the flipper position. Also, Moritaka has a one vote penalty, as he has gone for one turn.
The second voting phase ends at 1:05 am GMT on Saturday, February 16th, 2013. If you are missing either of your two pieces of information, you will be unable to win the vote, regardless of your vote score. Also, this will be your last 48 hour voting phase. Please use your time wisely, and remember that following rounds will only allow 24 hours of consideration time. Good luck!

You all have about 24 hours left to get your decisions in. If you don't have them in, you won't be winning the round. Take care!

Oh, right. I suppose I forgot to do a 12-hour warning when I got on earlier. Here's a less-than-8-hour warning instead!

Voting Phase 2Once again, Alydar takes the ballot box to the back room to once again tally up the votes. He comes out with a list, glances at his watch, slightly confused, and exclaims, "Well! I see there's not as much harmony this time... A close call, with Kestrel in the lead for votes! Now to flip cards!" He walks around the table, drags Kestrel aside and listens distractedly as two numbers are whispered to him. "Aha! Here it is, the deciding factor for this round..." He flips two cards. "They don't match! Ah, what a shame... it would seem we've lost all the luck from before... This game has a long way to go..." The display screen is updated, the board still fuzzy but Kestrel now with a single vote penalty. The players gather to see the new layout, two flipped back upside down, two rightside up. The ballot box emptied, the next round begins... VotesKestrel: 2 votes Cyrus: 1 vote Moritaka: 1 vote 10k: 0 votes Iain7: 0 votesFreih: 0 votes *Iain7 did not vote.* Kestrel wins the vote and decides to flip over cards 15 and 18 . They do not match, so Kestrel wins no points. The two cards have been flipped over in the first post and will be flipped back over at the conclusion of the next voting phase. You have only 24 hours to make a decision on who should be the next flipper. Remember to include which two cards you would like to flip over in the event that you win the flipper position. Also, Kestrel now has a one vote penalty, as she has gone for one turn. The third voting phase ends at 1:08 am GMT on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. If you are missing either of your two pieces of information, you will be unable to win the vote, regardless of your vote score. Take care as you have only 24 hours of deliberation. If you would like to put a placeholder vote, so you don't get declared inactive, you may do so. Votes may continue to be changed until the end of the round, but make sure the votes you wish to have counted at the end of the round are the last votes you send in! If 24 hours is too little time, feel free to plan ahead with whatever alliance you may have and discuss the possible results and whatnot. And if you know for sure that you will be unable to log on for a period of time, you may give me default decisions for that period of time, but please don't abuse this. Best of luck with your planning! Also, the question of conditional decisions came up. They are not allowed, if for nothing other than that they go against the fluff of this game. You don't know what anyone else voted or the vote distribution until all the votes are made, so you must choose a specific player to vote for and a specific set of numbers. The exception to this is if you're giving default decisions for a future round, in which case you can say something like "I vote for the player with the least turn penalty aside from myself" or "My numbers are the first two of {A, B, C, D, E} which haven't yet been revealed." However, you can't default to an already-revealed pair, as that's the point of Memory.

Voting Phase 3The buzzer rings yet again... and again. Alydar opens a hatch on the ballot box, organizing the votes inside the box. "A mix of votes, a tie of sorts, a winner above others surmounted. ...ah, a three-way tie, is it? Well, one player of those is inactive, so she's ignored. Down to 10k and Moritaka, 10k has gone less. Thus... 10k! You're the winner for this round! Sound familiar? Wait, rewind. Ahah. Your numbers?" 10k whispers them to Alydar, and the cards are flipped. "Not 14 but 15 and 16 again... You seem to like starting with similar numbers! Sadly... they don't seem to like you. Aha. Well, someone has to take a lead sometime, and some matches will be revealed... and already are. Will they be taken? Or not? Time will tell, and the past doesn't seem like a good indication of things to come. Ahahahahahaha!!!" The next round begins... VotesKestrel: 1 vote10k: 1 vote Moritaka: 1 vote Iain7: 0 votes Cyrus: 0 votes Freih: 0 votes *Kestrel did not send in a vote.* 10k wins the vote and decides to flip over cards 15 and 16. They do not match, so 10k wins no points. The two cards have been flipped over in the first post and will be flipped back over at the conclusion of the next voting phase. You have only 24 hours to make a decision on who should be the next flipper. Remember to include which two cards you would like to flip over in the event that you win the flipper position. Also, 10k now has a one vote penalty, as he has gone for one turn. The fourth voting phase ends at 1:08 am GMT on Monday, February 18th, 2013. If you are missing either of your two pieces of information, you will be unable to win the vote, regardless of your vote score. Take care as you have only 24 hours of deliberation. If you would like to put a placeholder vote, so you don't get declared inactive, you may do so. I was just looking over tie rules for the previous game and want to make sure I have them right and have correctly answered everyone who asked about them. For a tie, we first look at who has gone the fewest number of turns. Of those, the winner is randomized between the active players. If only inactive players have gone the fewest number of turns, they take turn penalties, and we look at the next fewest number of turns until some active winner can be determined. If multiple turn penalties are applied in one turn due to inactivity, the turn counter is pushed ahead that many turns.
A good reference for how things apply is Round 13 of the previous game, where all players were tied, the two inactives had the least number of turns, and the other two were tied in turns. The two inactives both took turn penalties, and then the winner was randomized between the remaining two.
Again, this is so people know how ties are resolved in case I misanswered or miswrote things elsewhere. Also because my speeches in the posts may not necessarily have reflected these rules, leading to my own and others' confusion.

Voting Phase 4The buzzer rings yet again, and Alydar... well, you know all that. He proceeds to take out a pad of paper, scribbles something on it, and puts it on top of the table. "Freih is our winner, with a rather large lead! Congratulations! With that, it's his turn to choose numbers!" Freih steps up... "I choose my own: 16 and 31. It's only right I reclaim what's mine," and returns to his seat. The numbers are flipped, and lo and behold, we have a match! "Ahahahaha! What is this, the reverse of before? The first match when none had happened, a successful match of one's own when failed by the one before... Ahahaha, you guys are great! I can't wait to see what's left in store!" Alydar chuckles to himself as he once again puts out the ballot box. VotesFreih: 3 votes Cyrus: 1 vote Kestrel: 0 votes 10k: 0 votes Iain7: 0 votes Moritaka: -1 votes Freih wins the vote and decides to flip over cards 16 and 31 . They do indeed match, each with the name Freih, so Freih wins 1 point. The two cards have been flipped and will remain face up for the entire game. You have only 24 hours to make a decision on who should be the next flipper. Remember to include which two cards you would like to flip over in the event that you win the flipper position. Also, Freih now has a one vote penalty, as he has gone for one turn. The fifth voting phase ends at 1:08 am GMT on Tuesday, February 19th, 2013.

Voting Phase 5Here we are with a large lead once all votes have been counted. Moritaka, with help from friends, above them all surmounted. He flips two cards, fingers crossed, again will they agree? It's up to numbers, long sent in, to tell what they will be. And so, by Alydar's turn of hand, those two cards are flipped. But with no match, in anger now, Moritaka's hands are gripped. Two cards matched, the rest for chance, what stretches on is time. For we go onward with no luck, maybe next time at a rhyme? VotesMoritaka: 3 votes Cyrus: 1 vote Kestrel: 0 votes Iain7: 0 votes 10k: -1 votes Freih: -1 votes Moritaka wins the vote and decides to flip over cards 8 and 29. They do not match, so Moritaka wins no points. The two cards have been flipped over in the first post and will be flipped back over at the conclusion of the next voting phase. You have only 24 hours to make a decision on who should be the next flipper. Remember to include which two cards you would like to flip over in the event that you win the flipper position. Also, Moritaka now has a two vote penalty, as he has gone for two turns. The sixth voting phase ends at 1:08 am GMT on Wednesday, February 20th, 2013.
