A few kind words later, Freih has decided to decline to fire the gun for the final time. Cyrus raises the gun, points it straight up, and pulls the trigger.

No bullet there. You could've made $30, Freih. Oh well. Elapsam semel occasionem non ipse potest Iuppiter reprehendere. We've gotta keep going forward. I'll take the pot and pass the gun to Shagura. You're up.
Round 3 Totals: Freih - $1,058 Shagura - $880

Freih's got the gun and the standings are as follows. Also, please note that it is Round 4 and not Round 3. I'm not going to edit it up top just to show that nothing's been changed.
Round 4 Totals: Freih - $1,058 Shagura - $878 Pot - $2

Elapsam semel occasionem non ipse potest Iuppiter reprehendere. At first I wanted to say something about how the Internet mangled the translation, but then I stopped caring when I realized it was more succinct. Such is the life of a proverb written in a foreign language.

Freih passes the gun back to Shagura and tosses $4 into the pot.
10k, are you talking about the internet mangling the translation of the phrase back into English, or am I quoting it terribly? That's the only way I've heard/seen the saying.
Round 4 Totals: Freih - $1,054 Shagura - $878 Pot - $6

Such is the life of a proverb written in a foreign language. Interruption because Latin!!! "Not (even) once is Jupiter himself able to seize a missed opportunity." <- literal translation "Not even Jupiter can find a lost opportunity." <- internet (game?) translation, or what I found. They're close enough. Go Internet!

I will admit that I am only familiar with the quote because of the game Virtue's Last Reward. I recommend that game and its prequel, 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. But uh, back to almost shooting people, right?

The most fluid translation ought to be: "Once lost, not even Jupiter can grasp that opportunity." There's nothing wrong with the original quote itself (well, it's not standard word order, but Latin takes pride in the poetic arrangements of words).
Thus, it's just the person who did the translation to English--he/she forgot to take into account the adverb "semel," but I think just dropping that word should validate the Internet translation. Hence, my appreciation for the shortening of the translation, since both still say the same thing.
So, are you suggesting the next LGT be a Nonary Game?

I.... I would love that so much. Playing in a Nonary Game without having to worry about dying would be the coolest thing.

I.... I would love that so much. Playing in a Nonary Game without having to worry about dying would be the coolest thing. Give me 9 players, a few days to replay 999, and a few weeks to think of puzzles (or longer, depending on how busy I may be), and it could be possible. Strangely enough, the first condition is both the simplest and least likely. Hmm... a nonary game. That's a good idea for a D&D campaign... *starts writing stuff down and planning* Also, now I suppose I have to get a 3DS, if only to be able to play Virtue's Last Reward. (Also, 10k, your translation leaves out the "ipse," which could or could not matter (it adds emphasis to the fact that it's Jupiter, which I suppose is why these translations are replacing "ipse" with "even" to keep that same emphasis)) ...and I suppose I should leave this thread, considering I'm not even in this game, but... I won't. *keeps rambling...*

Alydar, if you aren't going to leave anyway, why don't you take the shot for me?
Oh, well, I suppose you're not such a good friend. I guess I'll have to SHOOT myself, then.
