Hypothetical Example:
***NOTE: This is done completely using randomizations. This is meant simply to give an idea of the gameplay, not the strategy...***
I'll be using a table to show the positions of the cups. Each cup will have a color associated with it, so you can better see how they move. Each position has a letter associated with it, so the letters on each cup will change during each step. However, each color will still represent the same cup. The balls will also be shown under each cup as well as a count of how many times they've been moved left/right and switched. So... here goes. Let's use a 4-player game for a single round, as it's a lot of work, even with randomization to "help." Let's get to work...
Initial Setup:
Player 1 = Red, Player 2 = Yellow, Player 3 = Green, Player 4 = Blue. Initial player order is 4-3-1-2
Player 4 - Switch balls in Cups E and C.
Pass
Switch Cups C and E.
Move Cup C Right 2.
Player 3 - Pass
Switch Cups B and A.
Pass
Switch balls in Cups A and C.
Move Cup D Left 1.
Player 1 - Pass
Switch balls in Cups B and C.
Switch balls in Cups C and D.
Player 2 - Move Cup E Left 5. (note max movement is 4)
Switch Cups D and C.
Decisions
Player 1: Cup E -> YELLOW
Player 2: Cup D -> RED
Player 3: Cup E -> YELLOW
Player 4: Cup B -> BLUE
Standings
Player 3: 4 points
Players 1 and 4: 3 points
Player 2: 2 points
I apologize if it's hard to read, but there aren't many formats to present this in... Anyway, this will all be done behind the scenes in the actual gameplay, so don't get worried that you'll have to keep scrolling up and down and figuring out exactly what happened. It's way too much work for me to keep it up throughout...
