A loud bang startles the gamblers. Not because of its loudness but because of the noise itself. On the place they were at, even those kind of things were out of place.
Alydar materialices between them. His clothes are on fire. The gamblers' spirit selves try to help him (while their real bodies are just standing there with their eyes closed) not knowing that nothing can be done to help him. The fire is quickly put off but Alydar is dead. His mask is melted to his skin, still hiding his face. His burns are not nearly enough to be lethal, but something deadlier than fire was burning Alydar alive: fate.
"How so very sad." says Forli, behind them. "It seems that one of Alydar's paradox selves managed to get this far on the timeline. Bastard probably thinks he can escape his fate somehow."
Forli makes a swift move with his hand and Alydar's body vanishes into thin air. One of the gamblers asks him what he meant with all that.
"Alydar's true self died a long time ago. Thousands of years, perhaps even more. However, during LGT's fight against The Greater Power, Alydar learnt how to wander into alternate worlds and timelines. He tried to use what he had learnt to find a way to somehow fix everything. Perhaps he would have succeeded if The Great Power hadn't found him first. He got brutally killed. His alternate selves, created by his multiple timeskips and space warps, remained alive. However, once the real self is dead, the others can only follow. They are doomed to die, doomed to have an empty life where nothing will ever be achieved. They are just soulless beings playing hide-and-seek with death. Running away is their only purpose and running away is what they do."
On normal circunstances, no one would believe what they were hearing. But this weren't normal circumstances, were they?
"What is The Great Power?" one of them asked. "What in God's name happ-" Forli made another hand movement and the gambler suddenly found himself unable to keep talking.
"First, the results. As I said before, finishing the game is our number one priority. We can talk some more later.

Once again, Iain7 wins a point when 10 divided by 6 gives 1 with a remainder of 4. I expected no less from you, Iainseven. Let's update the celestial scoreboard."

"Goodbye, children of men" says Forli as he turns around. The gamblers rush to stop him.
"Wait! What about our questions? What's The Great Power? What's going on?" after hearing this questions, Forli sighed. He looked like he'd rather not answer those.
"The Great Power is a mistake. It happened at the Casino, so long ago I can't even remember the exact date. Well, I mean, I do remember because I'm awesome, but you get the point. When the Casino started, I was just a teenager with only a couple of thousand years on my back. I had a lot of power and I didn't know how to use it. And I made a mistake. A mistake so big that it took life on its own and started devouring everything around it. We have tried to find a way to fix it, but it has proven impossible. Everytime we think we've found a way to make everything right, it just gets worse. Most of our universe has been destroyed by The Great Power. This star is now our last hideout. When The Great Power gets here, we will have nowhere to run to. And you, my dear gamblers, are our last attempt to unmake The Great Power. And you, Iain7, hold the key to it. You hold the seventh guardian.”
Iain7 looks shocked.
“But... but I'm just a rich and powerful playboy! How can I hold the key for something like that?”
“You will see. Hopefully, if our plan goes as it's supposed to, you will see.”
And will that, Forli vanishes. A few minutes later, they noticed something. The white place their were in was no longer pure white. At a certain point in space, a black spot could be seen. And it was growing, slowly but steadily, as if it was... devouring the whiteness.
Round 9 will end in 48 hours from this post.
