Heh. Alydar and I were discussing Usogui over a cup of coffee yesterday. What are the odds? ...I mean in me liking coffee. Even I didn't know that! But yeah, Usogui. If only it were updated more often. It has been more recently, but there was that long wait, though not as long as LG. Any clue when it's coming back?

I looked at Usogui, but... so far it doesn't seem to make much sense (the first 13 chapters). I find it quite troublesome to follow what's happening at times - it just seems more random than logical. Besides, the opponents so far seem to be relying on imbalanced rules or other advantages, and not on their intelligence.
4-5/10 so far.

It's like kung-fu action meets deception, not deep philosophical mindgames; there's only a handful of "deep philosophical mindgames" manga, so you're going to exhaust the genre quickly. The combination isn't everybody's cup of tea, so it's 679th on MangaFox.
6/10...my big beef is that the solutions for the arcs need a better job of foreshadowing. If it would do a better job of that, I'd be happier to score it higher..
There's a lot of other stuff you ought to read first before Usogui. You guys can ask me via PM if you want suggestions for the genre. After all, this is the LIAR GAME discussion thread, so let's stop derailing.

I agree with 10k, but it temporarily filled a lack-of-liar-game void There's also gamble fish, which is ridiculous.

After all, this is the LIAR GAME discussion thread, so let's stop derailing. Let's derail this thing! ...there's not much LG going on anyway. I agree with 10k, but it temporarily filled a lack-of-liar-game void There's also gamble fish, which is ridiculous. See, I have a different void to fill, which is pretty much manga in general. I've read so many... Usogui's interesting, though it's different from LG in the fact that it's more of an action manga. There are some good games, but a lot are based on luck or rigging... or insane skill that doesn't need to be overly realistic in real life. Gamble Fish falls into the latter category, but it does have some interesting gambles. Then again, there's also some fan-service involved, per usual... Meh. They're interesting reads, though they're not as strategy-based as LG. (Though I haven't read either in its entirety for a while, so I could be forgetting/misremembering things. After a while, all the manga seems to blend together... :

If you want good manga recommendations, I've been told by several people that my recommendations are top notch! I spend a lot of my time watching film and reading novels too so I'll list some of my favourites Gantz - awesome gorey sci-fi action, with brilliant character development. I hate mangas with boring protagonists like Ichigo. This is not one of them! Parasyte - Again, interesting character development as well as a really interesting plot! Action/horror? Fairly short too, which is good, but it feels full! Uzumaki - all time favourite horror, about a city getting corrupted by spirals. Creepy as shit XD The same guy wrote Gyo, about walking fish (CREEPY) and a good short called the enigma of amigara fault. Vagabond - A+ samurai manga. There are lots of samurai manga like gamaran, but this one is loosely based on history, and the character development is truly amazing. Psyren - fairly decent time-travel/fantasy action. Cage of Eden - Unfortunately was axed early so the ending SUCKS, but the rest is a brilliant LOST-style mystery about an island with prehistoric animals The breaker - Korean Manhwa about kung-fu organisations. But wowwww, you know when a manga gets to a good bit and you can't stop turning the pages? The author is a master of this. Definite must read! Bloody monday - story about hacking. Fairly psychological I guess, tries to stay realistic in terms of hacking, which means the plot can get a bit silly at times, but it's fun! Yakitate Japan - A cooking manga (I actually for some strange reason love cooking manga) but mainly a gag manga. Amazing parodies of other anime left, right and centre. And by the end it gets completely ridiculous xD And then there's the usuals like death note, (watch code geass if you haven't already), one piece, etc EDIT: oh, and my friend recommended me two which are both good: Detroit Metal City - parody gag manga about a hipster who has to play in a really hardcore metal band Vinland Saga - fairly realistic manga about... vikings. Leaf Ericsson's in it. Lol

Man, you beat me to Gamble Fish, Alydar! I actually quite like that one, since it has good games (which get very out of hand very quickly), though I will agree with you that the fan service is a bit extreme at times. Besides that, if you guys are looking for psychological stuff, I can't recommend Life is Money enough. The biggest flaw that it has is that the scanlation is pretty bad. Besides that, though, it's incredible. It's only like 15 chapters long, so it shouldn't take too much time to read. It's not quite as 'people playing various games with strategies' as Liar Game or Gamble Fish, instead going to a more 'what are people like in the dark' vibe.

Ha, I read life is money yesterday after reading that. It was a bit weird but I liked it. Is it definitely over? EDIT: also just picked up a series called SOIL - it's a weird detectivey story with a similar feel to 21st century boys

Yeah, it's over and done with. I'm glad you liked it! And I guess I'll have to check out SOIL or finally get around to watching Code Geass. I've got plenty more where that came from, but nothing else as amazing as Life is Money that's on genre. If you're looking for works that are just good, though, I'd recommend the anime Darker than Black, the first season of which can be found on Netflix. The first season stands alone, so you don't need to feel like you're going into this huge thing (first season, short manga between first and second season, second season, 4 episode OVA that occurs chronologically between the manga and the second season). What really did it for me with that series was the combination of obviously high quality work with a very interesting storytelling style. The series is very good at slowly revealing the setting to you, and explaining how the things that are obviously different from our world work, and progressing the overarching plot all while telling a series of two episode stories. Definitely one of my favorite serious anime.

Random theory. I bet you guys thought it was a chapter update, too. Nope.
I was reading the first chapter of Liar Game, and something occurred to me: what if Nao's family was a bunch of no-good swindlers? After all, think of this: why did Nao receive the name she did? "Because my father said, 'in order for you to become an honest girl' is the reason he gave me this name."
Perhaps this was his way to atone for past guilt.
Imagine the sorts of implications this could cause! I mean, I could easily see Yokoya having a ball taunting Akiyama with something like that if he were to find out. And look at the dozen flavors of irony!

Well, it's been a year since the last chapter of Liar Game came out. I baked everybody a cake. To celebrate.... Make that to console. I can't take the wait any more, guys. I can't do it. I need Chapter 170. On a less comically sad note, I wonder what the hold up is. Did they just drop the series? Or is planning the next 'x' arcs just taking forever?

No arcs are planned. WE MUST GIVE HIM OUR GAMES! IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE THIS SERIES!!!1!11!!!' ...yeah, I have no clue. It's not the longest hiatus he's taken, and at least he was nice enough to wait until the END of a game... well, if nothing else, there's our games. Hey, maybe we could make a manga out of our tourneys! Everyone loves making confessionals, right?

As long as you don't ask me to draw anything, I'm fine. But which games? God knows some of them *cough*Rigged Cee-lo*cough* had somewhat.... unsatisfying endings as far as story resolution goes. Who would you cast as protagonist/antagonist? Or would this be a multiple perspective kind of deal?
