Double Bluff - Official LGT Rules*Note that there may be changes to what you thought the rules were. Ask any questions/clarifications in a reply to this.*
Setup:Each player will be dealt 2(n-1) cards, where n is the number of players in the game. At 6 players (10 * 6 = 60), two decks are used. At 8 players (14 * 8 = 112), three decks are used. At 9 players (16 * 9 = 144), the algorithm is changed to (n+4) cards per player (so it's now 13 * 9 = 117). If it somehow then gets to 11 players (15 * 11 = 165), a fourth deck is added, and it becomes 15 cards per player. Thus, it goes up a deck approximately once every 4 extra players. Of course, it's likely not going to go up anywhere near that high, but I'm writing this for the formality.
These cards will be displayed in each player's inventory, so only they (and the dealers) can see them. They will be updated at the end of each round, along with a log of which cards were sent where and which cards were received from whom. Hopefully this will help you all keep track of your cards!
Claim Phase:On the first Claim Phase, players have 48 hours to make a claim about a single card in their hand. The claims can be any of the following:
- [Card Name Here] is the XXth highest card in my hand.
- [Card Name Here] is the XXth lowest card in my hand.
- [Card Name Here] is the XXth highest card of its suit in my hand.
- [Card Name Here] is the XXth lowest card of its suit in my hand.
- [Card Name Here] is the ONLY card of its suit in my hand.
Aces and Jokers are considered
variable cards. In other words, if the claim talks about the
highest card (of a suit or in total), all variable cards are considered
high. If the claim talks about the
lowest card (of a suit or in total), all variable cards are considered
low (EDIT: with Jokers being lower than Aces which are lower than 2s. Reason for edit: Suit order still matters for Aces, so it's not actually reversing card order or anything like that. They just move from highest to lowest. So if you have 3 Aces, your highest one would now be your 3rd lowest card NOT your lowest. My mistake!).
Hearts are considered higher than Diamonds which are considered higher than Clubs which are considered higher than Spades. This will not matter much, but make note of it anyway. For ease of viewing, cards will be shown lowest to highest from left to right in your inventory.
If there are multiple decks in play, it is possible that a player can have multiple copies of the same card. In this case, that card will only take up one place in the order, not two (or how ever many copies s/he has). So, if a player has 10 cards, one of which is a double of a card (so 9 unique cards in actuality), that player is considered to have only 9 cards when considering whether the card is XXth highest or lowest (of its suit?) in the hand. That player still has 10 cards in every other aspect of the game, including scoring.
Each claim is either true or false, depending on the cards in the hand. For ease of dealing, please specify whether your claim is true or false when you post it. If you would like to change your claim, it must be done in a new post and before the deadline. Please do not edit your claim posts, as it will result in the invalidation of your claim. You can simply post again to fix your claim, though.
The card used in the claim will be discarded at the end of the round. It will be completely out of the game at that point.
In rounds 2-5, the Claim Phase will be split into two parts: 24 hours for Card Exchange, and 24 hours for Claim Finalization (the Claim Finalization period will always end a minimum of 24 hours after the Card Exchange period ends). Claims may be made during either of those periods of time. However, it is definitely possible that the cards given/taken from you will change your claim from True to False (or vice versa) or invalidate it entirely. So, it would be a good idea to make sure that you finalize your claim in the Claim Finalization period.
Any cards not specified to be exchanged in the Card Exchange period that must be exchanged per rules will be decided through randomization.
Bluffing Phase:Immediately following the Claim Phase is a 72 hour Bluffing Phase. Players will use this time to determine whether each player is telling the truth or lying. This will be conducted through polls in each player's confessionals (locked automatically 3 days after posting). Each player will make a decision on the claims made by active players during that time. If a player makes an ambiguous claim (e.g. marks XXX is telling the truth AND XXX is lying), that player will take the inactivity penalties. Votes may be retracted for a revote as many times as necessary before the polls lock.
At the end of the Bluffing Phase, the truths, lies, and accusations of each player will be revealed. For each incorrect accusation that Player A does against Player B (insert any or all names in A and B), Player A chooses one card to give to Player B during the following Card Exchange period (in the Claim Phase). For the 5th round, these will just be figurative, as there is no following round, so the specific cards don't matter.
Players inactive in the Claim Phase will not be forced to simply sit around for 3 days doing nothing, however. They'll be given a poll in the confessionals in order to gain some pride (and hopefully to not be bored...). For each
correct accusation that an inactive makes, that player will be able to
choose the card that s/he gives to that player. Otherwise, the card will be randomized.
Elimination:After each Bluffing Phase, each player knows that s/he will have a certain number of cards during the following Claim Phase. If that number is 1 or fewer, that player is out of the game. Since this happens before the Card Exchange period, certain changes to that format will be used. All cards that the player needed to exchange will be randomized. If the player has less cards than s/he is required to exchange, the leftover cards from the deck will be used to fill the extra spots. When all of those cards are also used up, the discarded cards will be shuffled and reused.
In addition, each player who needed to give the eliminated player a card still chooses a card during the Card Exchange period for that player. These cards are eliminated with the player and sent to the discard, to be reused if needed.
Endgame:After the conclusion of 5 rounds, or when there is only one player left in the game, the game ends. The number of cards that each player owns (after finishing the necessary exchanges from the previous Bluffing Phase) is totaled, and the player with the most cards at the end of the game wins. If one player wins, that player wins 5 Poker Chips. If two people are tied in first, each wins 2 Poker Chips. If three people are tied in first, each wins 1 Poker Chip. If any more are tied in first, they all win 0 Poker Chips.
Inactivity:If a player is inactive during the Claim Phase, that player must give one card away to every player active that turn, and that player receives no cards from anyone else. If that player gets his/her accusations correct, that player may choose the card to exchange. Otherwise, the card will be randomized. In addition, a random card is chosen as the claim and discarded. The claim will read: "I have a [Card Name Here]."
If a player is inactive during the Bluffing Phase, that player must give one card away to every player who did not receive an accusation from that player. The card will be randomized in this case.
If a player is inactive during the Card Exchange period, the cards which were not chosen will instead be chosen randomly.
